Mets blast Red Sox in Fenway portion of home and home; head back to Citi Field with Jacob deGrom set to take the hill

The New York Mets made quick work of the Boston Red Sox on the road securing a 7-4 win in the series opener and a 8-3 victory on Tuesday night. The Amazin's climbed overtover .500 mark to sit at a record of 3-2; tied atop the NL East with the idling Miami Marlins due to a COVID-19 outbreak in their clubhouse.

The Mets will now return to Queens for a home and home series with Boston as Jacob deGrom is set to take the hill on Wednesday evening. New York has feasted on Red Sox pitching and taken advantage of some baserunning blunders and less than stellar defense to put the hurt on J.D. Martinez and company. Earning deGrom his first win of the season would go a long way to extending distance between the Mets and the Phillies and Nationals, which could be critical in a shortened 60-game season.

With deGrom on the hill, Nathan Eodvaldi stands between the Mets and their first three-game winning streak of the season. Assuming the Mets take care of business behind deGrom, they could enter a weekend series in Atlanta riding a potential four-game winning streak and with as much as a three-game lead in the NL East. The Amazin's lineup is showing signs that it's coming to life and the team's defense has been just good enough in Beantown.

By week's end,t Mets will be ten percent through the shortened schedule and if they can find a way to stay atop the division, reinforcements in Robert Gsellman and Marcus Stroman will be on the way.
