Senga gearing up for rehab start makes surging Mets even scarier

The New York Mets were MLB's hottest team in June and they haven't benefitted from the presence of the pitching staff's true ace at the midway point of the year.

Kodi Senga is set to pitch for the Double -A Brooklyn Cyclones on Wednesday in first major step toward a big league return.

The rehab start will prove a litmus test for the Japanese pitcher working his way back from a shoulder strain suffered back in February.

The Amazin's have been ultra conservative with the ace's injured shoulder and just a month ago looked dead and buried at 11 games under the .500 mark.

Through the power of Grimace and Jose Iglesias' OMG Candelita hit single, the Mets are on a heater and just 1.5 games back of the Nl's final Wildcard spot.

Senga's return would be a major shot in the arm for a Mets team that is shorthanded in the bullpen without closer Edwin Diaz, whose ten game suspension will end this Saturday.
