Pete Alonso's clutch three-run HR helps Mets avoid elimination

From Barstool Sports' Frank the Tank to WFAN radio host Sal Licata to Mets fans all over the globe, Pete Alonso was getting harpooned for his less than stellar performance  through two games of the Wild Card round.

Alonso had just one broken bat hit and three walks, with no homers or extra base hits, that was until the ninth inning of Thursday night's Game 3.

With Francisco Lindor drawing a leadoff walk and Brandon Nimmo reaching base on a single two batters later, the stage was set for Alonso to deliver a memorable moment.

And Boy, he didn't disappoint.

Alonso went opposite field over the right field wall off closer Devin Williams to give the Mets a 3-2 advantage courtesy of a three run bomb.

Jessie Winker scored an insurance run on a Starling Marte base knock to give the Mets a two-run cushion.

Starter David Peterson worked around a leadoff hit to slam the door in the bottom of the ninth with Lindor making a double play put out to end the game.

The Mets will travel to Philly on Saturday to take on the Phillies in Game 1 of the NLDS.
